A report, not a shop floor
North Peak Capitals exists to make beginner financial language slower and more precise. It is an educational publication. It is not a brokerage, not an advisory practice, and not a place that ranks products.
If a sentence tells you what to buy, it has left this report.
Mission
The mission is literacy: so a reader can meet a public claim about money, markets, or technology and still see the definition underneath. Beginners are the primary audience — people who have not yet been trained to hear “risk” as a family of distinct problems.
The project is written with readers in Canada in mind, in English, and without pretending to a licence or a professional roster that has not been supplied.
Educational philosophy
We teach names before narratives. A chart is introduced as a drawing. An instrument is introduced as a bundle of rights and duties. Artificial intelligence is introduced as software that can draft a summary, not as an oracle.
Progress in this report means a cleaner sentence, not a larger account. We do not claim that reading will make anyone a professional investor.
How we treat financial information
Public numbers are treated as documents with authors, windows, and revisions. Past paths are not future results. We do not invent statistics, clients, or performance. If a figure is illustrative, it is labelled as a figure — a teaching drawing — not as a track record.
How we treat AI and technology
Analytical tools can speed a search or cluster similar paragraphs. They cannot accept responsibility for a household decision. Notes in this volume show where a model output must be checked against a source, and where speed becomes a new kind of opacity.
Methodology
- Define the term in the first encounter.
- Name the limit of the definition in the same section.
- Point to public or academic kinds of source, not to unnamed “professionals say.”
- Refuse buy/sell language, signals, and platform recommendations.
- Keep risk visible, including the possibility of losing capital.
Transparency and editorial standards
The site is funded by advertising and by publishing educational content. Educational notes are free. We do not take commissions for recommending investment products. We do not sell financial products or trading services.
Editorial independence here means: chapters are not a catalogue. If advertising appears, it is not the curriculum. Corrections belong in the text, not in a slogan.
Risk awareness
Markets can fall. Liquidity can vanish. Inflation can reduce the usefulness of a cash balance. Early-stage ventures can fail. Diversification can change how losses bunch; it does not remove loss. Readers remain responsible for their own decisions and for seeking regulated advice where they need it.
